The Long Island Fishing School first started holding classes in the winter of 2007 and graduated its first class with great success. Some alumnus have gone on to win major fishing tournaments, log some really impressive tuna and mako catches and have become successful charter boat captains. Class topics and our list of instructors continues to evolve, based on the needs of our new students and returning grad students looking to brush up on certain species and topics. The current faculty includes these outstanding instructors:

Capt. John N. Raguso, co-founder and headmaster of the L.I. Fishing School, a charter boat captain (MarCeeJay Sport Fishing) with over 34-years of bluewater experience; a nationally known saltwater and boating writer for Sport Fishing and Marlin Magazines; the Editor of the Fisherman's weekly Offshore Report; and the Boating and Electronics Editor of the Fisherman Magazine.    

Capt. Vinny Cusumano, co-founder of the L.I. Fishing School, avid inshore and offshore angler (Fierce Alliance, 25 Grady-White CC) and proprietor of Fishin' Mission Bait & Tackle in Copiague, Long Island. 

Capt. Scott Shapiro, a charter boat captain (Scott Free, 35 T Jayson Downeaster) and a veteran inshore and offshore fisherman with over 25-years of experience.

Capt. Fred Golofaro, Managing Editor of the Fisherman Magazine, in addition to being an extremely knowledgeable and pioneering charter boat captain, surf guide and expert light tackle fisherman with over 30-years of experience.
 

Capt. Chris Ramos, a charter boat captain (Pelagic, 32 Carolina Classic) and a veteran inshore and offshore fisherman with over 15-years of experience.

Capt. Nick Savene, a full-time west-end charter boat captain (No Time, 34 Mortenson) and one of the best inshore, offshore and canyon fishermen on Long Island with over 35-years of experience, sailing out of Oceanside, NY.

Capt. Kevin Falvey, an east-end inshore and near offshore fisherman (23 Regulator CC) with over 30-years of experience and the senior editor of Boating Magazine.


Capt. Chris Gerhart, an experienced offshore/canyon specialist charter boat captain (Wasabi, 35 Henriques), sailing out of Freeport, NY.

Capt. Anthony Romano, a wreck fishing, canyon and tile fishing specialist that runs the charter boat Psycho (31 Tiara) out of Babylon, NY.

Capt. John Alberda,
a north shore and east-end charter boat captain with over 40 years of experience running Sound Charters, Capt. John is known as the "king" of Long Island Sound, specializing in bass and blackfish charters.
